Today, SEO experts are in high demand because they’ve taken their knowledge (the resources), and they’ve found a way to sell that to companies (the market), which has created a constant flow of economic activity (the industry).

But 15 years ago nobody knew what SEO was.

Some people are just gifted in business. They have an innate understanding of how people and the market work, and their career just can’t help but advance.

In other words, SEOs understand how to convert their time, talent or resources into money for others.

Can Your Blog Do That?

Bloggers create content (the resource), and content attracts eyeballs which is what companies want (the market), but it hasn’t created a constant flow of economic activity (the industry is missing). Why?

Because the blogosphere is highly fragmented.

There are millions of blogs competing for the same pool of traffic. Because of that, traffic to those blogs is also fragmented. So only the top trafficked blogs have enough eyeballs to where the less than 1% ad click through rate can convert and still make the advertiser a profit.

Or to put it bluntly,

  1. No profit -> no market.
  2. No market -> no industry.
  3. No industry -> no jobs.
  4. No jobs -> no money.

Here’s a thought… THAT MODEL SUCKS!

Who’s Monetizing Your Content?

If you think you can make money with your blog by advertising, you’ve been lied to.
I want you to repeat this 3 times:

  1. Google is already monetizing your content.
  2. Google is already monetizing your content.
  3. Google is already monetizing your content.

And they are doing a much better job at it than we ever will.

Here is an idea…

Stop trying to convert your content into money. Instead, convert your influence.

That’s right. Your content is worthless, but you can convert that content to influence, and with that you can change buying behavior.

And as we mentioned before, when buying behavior changes, companies can generate a profit, which is something they will pay for.

Building an Industry

Now that we have the right pieces in place: influence (the resource) and companies who will pay for a change in buying behavior (the market). The time is right for a proper blogging industry to finally emerge.

One where bloggers are in high demand, and jobs like a Director of Blogging Innovation can exist. But a question still remains…How do bloggers take their influence and bring it to market?

How do I convert my influence into something companies can pay me for without selling out?
The answer is simple, and I’ll tell it to you IF you join me at #TribeUpNYC on September 22nd. A conference for bloggers where we discuss how to advance the blogging industry.
